What We’re Running For
Team MiraKind is once again hitting the pavement at the Falmouth Road Race to raise awareness — and funding — for personalized cancer care powered by your DNA. Whether running the hilly 7-miles or cheering from the sidelines, they’re fueling life-changing genetic research.
On August 16, 2026, Team MiraKind will gather in Falmouth, Massachusetts, to run together, raise awareness, and fund groundbreaking genetic research. Whether running or cheering from the sidelines, our team will be working hard!

The Story Behind the Science
After co-discovering the first example of an important new class of genetic variant in 2006, Dr. Joanne Weidhaas saw that the application of these new biomarkers could radically change how cancer is prevented and treated.
That first genetic variant, called the KRAS-variant, is associated with increased risk of lung cancer,1 ovarian cancer,2 triple-negative breast cancer,3 and multiple primary cancers in women.4 Moved to action, Dr. Weidhaas established MiraKind to continue the research to help people with increased cancer risks from this variant.
Since founding MiraKind, Dr. Weidhaas has discovered hundreds of additional genetic variants, which have now been shown to help predict responses to cancer therapy. MiraKind's mission has expanded to help understand how this new class of biomarkers can best serve the individuals who carry them.
